Time zone

The standard time zone of the Balearic Islands is UTC / GMT +1:00, but from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October the difference from GMT is + 02:00.

Currency

In the Balearic Islands, as in the rest of Spain, the Euro is used. There are bills of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and coins of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cents and of 1 and 2 euros.

Electricity

In Spain electrical appliances work with a voltage of 220 volts, connected to two-pronged sockets, so you may need an adapter. It better be universal.

Business hours

Most stores in Sa Pobla open at 9:00 or 10:00 and close around 21:00-22:00. Some stores may also be open on Sundays.

Temperatures

The average temperature in winter is 16-18ºC, although at night it can drop to 5-9 ºC. The average temperature in summer is 29-31 °C.

Language

The official language is Catalan together with Spanish, the state’s official language.

TRANSPORT

Sa Pobla is very well connected by road along the Palma-Alcúdia axis, which is largely a highway located 2 km from the town; it also has roads to Playa de Muro, Muro, Llubí, Búger and Pollença.

The journey from Palma Airport to the town is 51 km long and can take about 35 minutes. If you want to use public transport, there are cabs and buses stops at the airport. Once you arrive in Sa Pobla, you can move by cab, bus and train.

Sa Pobla has public transport, and the train is the main one. Trains to Palma go back and forth every hour. The railway station is located on the road to Muro. For more information, you can check the fares and timetables on the official website of the TIB.

In addition, Sa Pobla has different regular bus lines that, depending on the season, communicate the town with nearby towns not connected by train: Búger and Campanet, ending in Inca; Muro and Alcúdia, starting in Palma; Pollença and Puerto de Pollença.

Sa Pobla has also the service of three cab licenses. These can be found at the stop next to the “Plaza des Tren”, right at the entrance to the town center. The most frequent destinations once you arrive at the town are Airport, Palma, Port of Alcudia, Platges de Muro, Pollença, Inca and Sineu.

Is smoking allowed?

Only in open spaces. Since 2010 it is totally forbidden to smoke both in establishments and in closed public spaces.

What are the usual restaurant opening hours?

Lunch is approximately from 13:00 to 15:30, and dinner from 20:00 to 23:00, a little later than in the rest of Europe.

Are tips mandatory?

No, but it is recommended to leave tips of between 5% and 10% of the total value of a restaurant bill if you are satisfied with the service.

How can I get around?

You can walk around town, use the bus, the cab and especially the train. The transport network of the Balearic Islands connects Sa Pobla with the rest of the municipalities of the island.

When is the best time to visit Sa Pobla?

The island has a humid Mediterranean climate, which is very pleasant most of the year. Therefore, any time of the year is perfect to get to know our town. It all depends on the type of trip you are planning. However, if you want to enjoy the sun and the beaches of the island, the best option is to come between June and September.

What means of transport connect the airport with Sa Pobla?

The journey from Palma Airport to the town is 51 km long and can take about 35 minutes. At Palma Airport there are cab and bus stops with information on prices and routes. The price of the cab is about 70 euros, a little less from Palma. The local company of Public Transport (TIB) has a website where you can find information about this line and its schedules.

Is there any tourist tax in the Balearic Islands?

Yes, this is a tax created by the Government of the Balearic Islands on people who enjoy tourist accommodation services. The rates are between 0.25€ and 2.20 € per person/night. Children under 16 are not required to pay this tax. For more information, visit the website:
